When I was 10 years old, I couldn’t get enough of candy. If it were up to me, I would have eaten it every day, but my mom always reminded me that too much would only lead to a stomachache. Out of that back-and-forth, I decided to turn my love for sweets into a poem, which I later submitted to a contest. I submitted it to a contest just for fun, never expecting much, but to my surprise it was chosen to be published in the 2016 Accomplished poetry collection. That moment became my very first published piece of writing, and the spark that showed me how powerful words could be.
